Certificate of insurance checker
Upload a vendor's certificate of insurance and get a plain-English summary in seconds: who is insured, which policies are listed, when each expires, and whether the limits meet common minimums. Free, no account, and the file is not stored.
General information, not legal or insurance advice. The checker reports what is printed on the certificate. It does not confirm that a policy is in force or that any endorsement applies; ask the vendor's agent or your insurance broker.
Questions about the checker
- What does the checker read?
- The dates, insurer names, policy numbers, and coverage limits printed on the certificate (usually an ACORD 25 form). It flags policies that have expired or expire within 30 days, and general liability limits below $1 million per occurrence or $2 million aggregate, which are common minimums. Your contract may require different amounts.
- What can it not tell me?
- Whether the certificate is genuine, whether the policy is still in force, or whether endorsements such as additional insured, waiver of subrogation, or primary and non-contributory apply. Those need the endorsement pages and a call to the agent or broker. It also cannot know what your contract requires.
- Is my certificate stored?
- No. The file is read once to produce the summary and is not saved. We keep only a count of checks (without the file or any names) to limit the free tool to 3 checks per person per day.
- What file types work?
- A PDF, JPG, or PNG up to 10 MB. A clear PDF of the certificate gives the best results; a sharp, straight photo of the whole page also works.
- How do I keep track of all my vendors’ certificates?
- CertiTrack reads each certificate the same way, stores it privately with the vendor, reminds the vendor at 90, 60, 30, and 7 days before it expires, and gives each vendor a compliance score. The Free plan covers 5 vendors with no credit card.
